They're definitely stiff and I wouldn't want to walk around in them all day before they had been broken in a bit more but I get to sit at a desk for most of the day so it's not been an issue. When it comes to break in, it's been pretty mild. Different eyelet options would be nice as well but the silver/nickle/gunmetal/whatever you want to call it color works just fine and I'm perfectly happy with it. This is much more of a general purpose color than a glossier black in my opinion. I think if there had been an option to go with a more high gloss black I may have taken it but I'm glad there wasn't. I really like the matte black of the boot. Gave it a once over and didn't see any messed up leather, stray strings, bad stitching, or anything of the like. This morning was fine and it was around 30☏.Īs to the look, everything looked good right out of the box. I just have to remember to put on thicker socks on during the coldest days here. It was chilly in my part of the world last night (not polar vortex chilly but still below freezing) and I definitely felt the cold through the leather. The lining was a bit thinner than I expected but again, this isn't a fault of the company, just different expectations on my part. That way I can wear thick socks or thin socks depending on what I want to do. And I like being able to adjust a little with the laces. The heels aren't slipping and the sides are pretty snug against my foot. I think I may have been able to get away with a 10 but as long as I pull everything up snug, I'm good. Thursday recommends buying half a size down from your regular shoe size but I went ahead and got 10.5 like I would wear in anything else. It seemed a bit bigger than I was expecting. The fit in the toe box was what really threw me at first. So sit back down, pull the laces good and snug all along the boot, and then try again. Then I realized that the laces weren't laced like I normally do them on my shoes (ladder laced) so they're not quite fitting like I would expect. Now the first thought when I started walking in them were, "What!? I got the wrong size! They're slipping all over the place! Dang it, I don't want to have to return these, wait for the shipping to get there, be processed, then ship back. First thoughts on putting them on were, "Huh, doesn't really feel any different from regular shoes." This is my first pair of Goodyear welt shoes and as such I was excited to get them. A week ago I purchased the Commander boot from Thursday and yesterday they came in.
